Privacy
Privacy and your Passport.
Updated October 17, 2026. The Kauaʻi Conservation Atlas is maintained by Domain Science Consulting. Exploring the Atlas is free; a Passport is optional.
Passport and Google sign-in
Clerk manages Passport authentication. An account includes an email address, username, authentication identifiers, and session/security information. If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides your basic profile, including name, email address, profile picture, and Google account identifier, to Clerk for authentication and account display.
The Atlas uses Google account information to sign you in and operate your Passport. It does not request access to Gmail messages, Google Drive files, or contacts. Google account data is not used for advertising. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Your Life List and contributions
Your Life List is associated with your account and is not published as a public list. Atlas administrators and service providers may access stored data as needed to operate and support the service.
Comments, display names, and photos or sound recordings you submit to public discussions are visible to other visitors. Community sound contributions and identification activity may also be public. Camera metadata is removed from comment photos, and playable sound files are normalized to remove metadata. If you choose to provide an original sound recording for review, it is retained separately for review and may contain original metadata.
Messages, searches, and usage information
The Contact form stores the name, email, message, and page or record details you provide for review and follow-up. Contact submissions are not displayed as public discussions.
Search and Ask queries may be retained to provide, diagnose, and improve Atlas responses. The site uses Google Analytics to understand visits and interaction events, including pages viewed, referring sites, and browser/device information. Hosting and authentication services may process request and security logs.
Cookies and service providers
Authentication uses cookies and browser storage to maintain your signed-in session. Analytics and saved interface preferences may also use cookies or browser storage. You can manage these through your browser; blocking authentication storage can prevent sign-in.
The Atlas runs on ChatGPT Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure, uses Clerk for authentication, Turso for application data, Cloudflare storage for uploaded media, and Google Analytics for usage statistics. These providers process information needed to deliver their services under their own policies. External links and embedded media may connect to other providers.
Managing and deleting your data
You can remove Life List entries and manage your own contributions through the available Passport controls. Account settings let you manage profile details and connected sign-in methods. You can revoke Google access in your Google Account connections.
Saved account data and contributions can remain stored until removed or reviewed. Revoking Google access does not by itself erase Atlas records. For an account or stored-data deletion request, email info@kauaiatlas.com or use Contact. Include your Passport username and the request, but never send your password. Deleting an authentication account alone may not remove separately stored lists or contributions; include those in your request.
